Rituals to bring Celebrate into your workplace

Celebrate is one of our 6 Pillars of Wellbeing. It’s all about tuning in to what matters most and recognising what’s great about you and the world around you. It’s also about understanding what your personal values are and feeling empowered to live in alignment with them.

You’ll know you’re making time to Celebrate when you:

  • Reflect on your own strengths and successes

  • Focus on kind self-talk

  • Notice small good things

A great way to bring the Celebrate Pillar into your workplace is by creating some Celebrate-inspired rituals with your team. Rituals are things you do to weave wellbeing into your day, like breathing breaks or walking meetings.

Here are some ritual ideas that align with our Celebrate Pillar.

Rituals to reflect on strengths and successes

  • Book regular 1:1s with your people. Give them time to reflect on their own successes. Ask them what they're proud of, and what they're doing well.

  • Encourage people to take 30 mins of ‘self-celebration and reflection’ each week. For example, encourage people to take themselves out for a coffee or spend some time in nature. Ask them to use this time to reflect on their strengths.

  • Celebrate personal wins in meetings. Ask everyone to share one thing that’s going well in their department.

  • Establish a ‘shout out’ board. For people to publicly express gratitude for their coworkers.

  • Celebrate an ‘Employee of the Month’. Put the spotlight on a different team member each month and celebrate all they contribute.

  • Ask people to share a win before they sign-off for the day. This helps to end each day on a positive note. People could share their wins via email, group message, on a whiteboard in a common area – whatever works best for your team.

Rituals to encourage kind self-talk

  • Write down or share one thing you’re good at. And encourage others to do the same.

  • Encourage people to spend time in the Groov app. Where they’ll find articles and videos around kind self-talk and self-compassion.

  • Create a safe space for people to share mistakes. This helps people understand that everyone makes mistakes and to view mistakes as opportunities to learn.

  • Set aside time for the leadership team to model kind self-talk. When leaders are self-compassionate, it gives others permission to be the same.

Rituals to help your team notice good things

  • Celebrate personal milestones. Such as work anniversaries, promotions, and birthdays.

  • Reflect on three good things that happen each day. Big and small.

  • Reflect on successes at the end of each week. And outline what there is to look forward to next week.

  • Write a ‘done list’ for the team. Outlining everything that’s been achieved in a week, month, or quarter.

Find what works for your people

Every workplace and team is unique, so experiment with different rituals until you find some that stick. The most important thing is to commit to rituals as a team. Doing things together improves communication, increases trust, and builds empathy. And when the whole team is on board, it makes it much easier to make Celebrate a normal part of daily life at work.
