Move is one of our 6 Pillars of Wellbeing. It’s all about finding little ways to bring movement into every day.
You’ll know you’re making enough time to Move when you:
Manage to do some form of physical activity every day
Get up every hour or so (if you’re sitting still)
Do physical activity that you enjoy
A great way to bring the Move Pillar into the workplace is by creating some Move-inspired rituals with your team. Rituals are things you do to weave wellbeing content into your day, like breathing breaks or walking meetings.
Here are some ritual ideas that align with our Move Pillar.
Have walking meetings. Remind people to bring their sneakers!
Start each shift with stretching. Or a quick Zumba class – whatever works for your team.
Run a team step challenge. For example, set a goal of 7,000 steps per day. Everyone who reaches this goal goes into the draw to win a spot prize.
Set an hourly timer. For people to stretch, walk around, or make a hot drink.
Play upbeat music and dance as a team. Every hour, on the hour (depending on your workplace, of course).
Start each meeting with 5 minutes of movement. Encourage people to do a few quick laps of their workstation at the start of each meeting.
Volunteer together outside. Clean up a beach or plant trees.
Organise a team sports day. Bowls are often a popular option.
Sign up for a charity run or walk. This is a great team-building exercise, too.
Every workplace and team is unique, so experiment with different rituals until you find some that stick. The most important thing is to commit to rituals as a team. Doing things together improves communication, increases trust, and builds empathy. And when the whole team is on board, it makes it much easier to make Move a normal part of daily life at work.
