12 wellbeing goals to consider in 2023

Do you enjoy setting goals at the start of the new year? If new year’s resolutions work for you, below are some great ideas from the Groov team!

1. Revive a favourite hobby

Chief Sales Officer and Enterprise Lead, Guy Alexander, plans to dust off his bike and get back out onto the streets of Tāmaki Makaurau.

“I love cycling – I am going to get back on my bike, shed some pounds, and enjoy the freedom of wheeling about the place.”

Data Scientist, Sakthi Harish, hopes to get back into tennis and go hiking more with his wife.

2. Get creative

Workplace Wellbeing Solutions Lead, Jessica Bowers, hopes to embrace her creative side.

“How can I be more creative in the kitchen, with dinner? Is there some form of writing or poetry that I could try out? What about the way I dress, or style my hair… anything! I’m keen to try new things – in any form – to leverage new ways of being creative.”

3. Read more books

Several Groovers would like to start reading more, especially novels. Tanner May (Customer Experience Manager), Kimberley Gilmour (Chief People Officer), Dom Dipple (Head of Content), Rohan Desouza (Product Owner) and Jess van Roekel (Writing & Tone of Voice Lead) have all set themselves reading challenges.

“In 2023, I’m going to set myself a challenge to read every day, even if it’s just one page of a book. I LOVE reading but over the last few years I haven’t prioritised it, and I miss it,” says Kimberley.

4. Make time for personal development

Community & Events Manager, Simone Fernandes, is keen to upskill.

“I’d like to take up some studying or mentoring opportunities, to help develop a new skill or improve on an existing skill.”

5. Journal every day

Office Manager, Jamie Wise, hopes to get into the habit of journalling in 2023.

“I'm going to try a minute a day journal, small and achievable!”

6. Limit screen time

Danielle Costello, Senior Customer Success Manager, plans to spend less time looking at screens – especially her phone and TV.

7. Spend more time in nature

Email Marketing Specialist, Cleo Akaroa, will be hitting up local nature trails and beaches.

“One new thing I'd like to try, with my love for nature in mind, is to explore new walks out and about in nature. Such as, waterfall trails, mountain hikes and beach walks.”

8. Learn a language

Co-Founder and CEO, Adam Clark, hopes to join our other Co-Founder, Sir John Kirwan, in speaking Italian.

“I am going to start learning to speak Italian. Minimum commitment 10 minutes per day,” says Adam.

Simon Hartley, Head of Technology, hopes to learn as much Spanish as he can before a trip to Spain in September.

9. Practise self-kindness

Lotta De Smet, Marketing Coordinator, is going to focus on treating herself with more kindness.

“I’ll be working on staying kind and not getting in my head around 'not doing enough'. I find I struggle to appreciate the current moment and push myself to be productive constantly - which isn’t sustainable.”

10. Spend more time with loved ones

Chief Product Officer, Fiora Au, is aiming to spend more time with friends and family.

11. Join a class

Graphic Designer and Illustrator, Gina Ramsay, is hoping to get her Groov on – literally – by joining a dance class.

12. Celebrate your wins

Accounts and Operating Manager, Cindy Gunawan, is going to make an effort to celebrate her achievements – big and small.

“One of Groov’s pillars I’m struggling with is Celebrate, so I recently started a ‘goodie bag’ and noted the complimentary things people are saying about me and the moments I feel proud of myself. I’m thinking of challenging myself to add at least one entry each day for 365 days.”
